Having known Andrea Dworkin I can't believe she would be anything but enraged at the male supremacist colonization of women's identity. As for Catharine MacKinnon, such a sad betrayal of women, but why?!

Its clear from even just those two quotes that Dworkin was well aware of autogynephilia, if not in the formal diagnostic sense at least in the colloquial understanding that trans is a sexually driven phenomenon (in men at least).

As for MacKinnon and the rest they have established careers to protect. Or at least their legacies if they are emerita academics. Its easy to be on the barricades in 68 when you have nothing to lose, young and living in some Marxist commune... Once you have an established career, respectability and multiple income streams from book deals and speaking tours you have joined the orthodoxy and have a stake in maintaining it.

The easy way to tell which notable feminist is privately GC is simply see who is being unusually quiet at this time. They are just waiting for the tipping point.

You are certainly correct about MacKinnon and others who want to protect their incomes and their "legacies." Speaking of "legacies", when I forwarded some online gender critical material (Glinner) to a woman in an influential, well paid, statewide position in the Battered Women’s Shelter network who had previously been very ingratiatong toward me, she replied, what a shame it was that I was "destroying my legacy." I take this as a threat because who would destroy my legacy for speaking the truth? For me it is unbearablely sad that there are women, in collaboration with men, who are destroying the women's shelter network by breaching it's confidentiality and anonymity, the very reason why shelters for battered women fleeing male violence were established in the first place. While the women who initiated and established these shelters were unpaid activists, those who came later were mostly paid. To protect their income they started revealing shelter locations to funders. We protested this, but never imagined that eventually men in drag would be allowed to colonize women's shelters, even if under the threat of defending (like the Vancouver Rape Relief and Shelter). It's as if the paid women who came later had no idea why women's shelters were established in the first place. Women like MacKinnon don't seem to realize that by their opportunism and cowardice they are the ones who are destroying their own legacies. When we look back on this bubble of madness we will be disgusted and appalled by those who were quescient, or who lied, pandered and betrayed for temporary short-term protection from trans terrorists.

Did one of MacKinnon's kids get converted? But even Andrea's male partner now makes the claim that she would support trans --- I think not. Her writing was visceral. She knew what women were and how they were treated. She suffered BECAUSE she was a woman and named who caused the suffering.

I read Andrea back in the late 1970's - early 1980's - not the most comfortable reading for a guy I must admit - but very worthwhile gaining her radical feminist perspective on the world. Contending that were she alive today Ms. Dworkin would have jumped on the trans-crazy-train strikes me as absolutely BS gaslighting of the highest and most clueless order indeed.

Thanks for this, with mention of the wives. Here's my data on what we experience before the escape. It's become clear that porn addiction, especially the odious, abusive sissy-hypno variety, is often the gateway into the full-time (or half-time) crossdressing. As well, in over 1/3 of the 67 transwidows' stories I've collected so far, husband became physically and/or sexually abusive. He grinds your soul in his fetish wood chipper.

Thanks, Betsy. Good to see some Dems speaking up for women and for sex-based rights. I doubt his views would have been widely publicised in the media and haven’t read about him in the NY Times.

I've personally come to think that the only way we are going to sort out this row about who uses which toilet is to only have one toilet behind each door onto some corridor. It might be very difficult/impossible to make such a change in some existing buildings, but some effort could be made. But building regulations could be amended to require one toilet rooms only in all future buildings. Be interested in feedback positive or negative, preferably civil.

Single stall toilets might help, but I don't like the ones that open directly onto a hallway, any fault in the lock and the person is suddenly exposed to everyone passing by. There's also some value in having the men's and women's toilets some distance from each other - no excuse/ reason for males to linger near the women's facilities.

Dworkin did advocate for sex reassignment surgeries for men. She also claimed to be a lesbian and was married to a man who claims to be gay.

MacKinnon is an odd duck. She argued at one point that porn is political speech in its nature and as “bad” political speech it can and should be banned. She is a SJ tribalist - a very smart one. Maybe she needs to view herself as a maverick. I don’t know. Ultimately, my guess it is about being tribalist and avant guard.
