It's such a dilemma, knowing which party to vote for. As a lifelong socialist I could never vote Conservative, will never again vote Labour, and the Greens and Lib Dems appear to be lost on this issue. I'm hoping that at the next election things will have changed dramatically, or that there might be an independent candidate who is unequivocal on this issue, otherwise for the first time ever I'll have to spoil my ballot paper.

It has such a grip on society, which makes it all the more incredible that many still seem unaware of the implications of such legislation. You don't have to be a genius to understand that there will be an adverse effect on the safety of millions of people, and a human cost that will last a very long time. All the more reason for those who are moderate and rational to stand strong. We are living through extraordinary times. Keep strong, Shawn.

Dear me. I guess this is what "there is no debate" looks like. Unbelievable.

I’m heart broken over this too in MN. Have we had our Isla Bryson moment yet? Why do we seem to need that much damage to happen to people before the pendulum swings.

That's what I can't get my head around. The evidence of harm is already overwhelming and still it continues.

I think many politicians will do anything to win power. What is happening in your state seems to be replicated in many western countries to varying degrees. They hedge their bets. When the reaction to this ideology reaches a critical mass I suspect that many will try to jump ship. Depressing.

“Queer Isis”. My new hashtag, thank you Julie.

I have known for a while there is no party I can vote for but my sense is we are winning this war and it’s all thanks to courageous women like you.

There was a time when I could not speak to my 30year old daughter about this issue but fortunately she has realised how dangerous it is to ignore reality.

Yes I have tried to talk to the young people in my family - including my doctor son who is specialising in padiatrics....

They all cite the 'being unkind to trans people' argument. And I do think it must be horrible for trans people to have to deal with the venom being exchanged.

I think more needs to be publicised about exactly how the propagana has started and worked it's way into (young) people's conscousness.

And we really need to unpick what is truth and what is extreme ideology. Sadly, for them, the young detransitioner voices seem to be doing that.

Desperately want the Tory’s out but don’t trust Labor on this issue. If Sturgeon was to fall solely because of this. Then it could have huge implications for Labor who then may think twice on the TWAW.

Thanks again Julie for your crisp, clear thinking and writing on this issue.

It's late and I thought I'd share some light relief: I mean, you gotta laugh, else you cry.

I still don’t really grasp why so few politicians have said ‘this is all rubbish and harms women & children’. I’m a Labour member though not active and I want the Tories out because of the dreadful damage they have inflicted on us all so I’ll vote Labour (very safe Labour constituency anyway). I am frustrated beyond measure with the party though - I’m told by women far more active than me and with high up contacts that it’s strategic. 🤷‍♀️. There is also fear of a massive row with TRAs among labour activists. Question remains though - WHY did it get like this??

Great news at least you have sunlight on the issues. And great column.

Some have said that Sir Keir is happy to mislead one electorate about his real political views to become leader. One would imagine, with the allure of being the PM, he’ll see sense on this issue. I agree that his current unfathomable anti-women stance will spoil Labour’s election prospects
