Thank you so much for doing an interview with Juana Julie. I had the pleasure of meeting her in Madrid in May at a Let Women Speak event there. Her story and that of her son Eric says a lot about how these things happen in Spain. Here we have self ID in the law nationally and very extreme policies in the autonomous regions (which run their own health and education services). This is why as soon as Eric got the idea into his head that he was trans, he was fast-tracked onto medication with little or no monitoring or controls. The policies are based on ideology not medical need or outcomes. As Juana explained, this is why when he died it was quickly assumed to be a "trans suicide" with no further investigation into how high doses of hormones may have affected Eric's physical or mental health. As Juana said, she is facing a huge uphill struggle to get any kind of accountability for what happened to Eric and little prospect of success. She's so brave and determined, so thank you for bringing her story to a wider audience. It really shows how unusual, quirky kids and young people like Eric are vulnerable to being medicalised by a completely captured health and legal system. People like Eric don't need to be fixed medically because they're not broken in the first place. Quirky, unusual and gender non-confirming young people like Eric just need support to accept themselves as they are and find their place in the world. So glad you met Juana and were able to do this interview.

Thank you for your strength in speaking out Juana 🫂❤️ ❤️❤️

Tears and heartfelt sympathy for the tragic loss of your precious son. My heart aches for you. My 26yo estranged son has been on HRT for 2 years. It isn’t medicine, it’s a terrifying nightmare.

RIP dear Eric X
