I had no idea B&Q had such cultural significance to lesbians. I am a proud (but straight) DIY practitioner myself and will happily browse the aisles for hours in preference to almost any other store. I’m rather sad they are in trouble. Screwfix and Toolstation (though often cheaper) are boring because they don’t let you browse.

😂 Proud lezzer DIYer here but not a haunter of B&Q mind, though I used to wander about Homebase in paint stained jeans, along with many other lezzers on a Sunday. On the nail that we do tend to get more hands on due to a lack of men about the place and unwillingness to look hopeless and drag one in off the streets. I have progressed to stripping motorcycles and riveting, pretty much anything requiring rivets. Happy new year, take a rest you workaholic 😘

I am traumatized for my lesbian sisters. It would be akin to Home Depot going down in my country.

The US equivalent is Home Depot (pron Dee-po). My Texan GF used to call it Homo Deepo.

🤗 You made me laugh! I can't think of an equivalent here (Melbourne AUS). In fact, I think that that the UK has many more lezzers than AUS, despite the post-war immigration waves of the '50s. Most of those immigrants were POMs and Greeks, but not many from Lesbos. AUS has had such a male oriented culture that women were not encouraged to do male type work though that is changing. Girls are doing more trade training and there are all-women businesses around that do gardening, painting and the like. Bunnings here could be the equivalent of B&G but I've not seen many women there in check shirts. And we all have IKEAs. I tend to avoid IKEA because once inside I can never find the way out.

We have waves of specially sought overseas trained teachers and nurses from time to time and there are often lezzers in those groups, I believe.

There’s always plenty of lezzers in my Bunnings in Lismore, northern NSW. Particularly after the flood 3 years ago, rebuilding their homes.

Ha! This is funny!

I'm hopeless with anything DIY-esque. I guess I need more lesbians in my life. :)

Not just lesbians but straight women who do their own DIY too.

Screwfix has an interesting name, but much less potential. You go in, ask for what you want and leave immediately afterwards. Must have been designed by a man. It'll have to be speed dating with the Sapphic woman behind the trade counter. You'll have about ten seconds to make eye contact before she disappears into the warehouse to fetch your order.

Sounds awful, no browsing. Our Bunnings store now allow dogs (unusual in Australia) and my pup loves a trip to Bunnings. Takes us ages to make our way around as so many stop us for pats.

But it’s literally 25% of the price of B&Q, the shittest hardware store ever.

Yes, Screwfix for tools, Jewson trade account for materials. The walk-in pricing at Jewson's isn't competitive, it keeps the B&Q customers away.

I prefer to suffer the pain of being a Builder Depot customer, which can be considerable lol

The Will and Grace episode with Jack confronting Rosie O’Donnell is priceless:

I’m now intrigued that IKEA is a Lesb-ateria. I always thought it was hot dad-ateria. I will revise my priors.

My late partner was a whizz at anything practical, from creating a tongue and groove wall (it was the 80s!) to the finest embroidery. She loved nothing more than an afternoon in the B&Q warehouse while I relaxed in a sauna. Now I have to do the minor repairs myself and I find I have channeled more of Chris than I’d thought. I can also plan a holiday by rail across Europe. Amazing what we absorb! Right: off to find the ladder and change a lightbulb. Happy to give you lessons, Julie!

Usually comes about when you have a hiring manager willing to hire butch women and then the word goes out and then every other flavour of lezzer wants to join in! Er, and poof! Lesbian Haven/Heaven
