There are tens of thousands of rapes in a year in the UK alone, with a population 1/5 the size...

I just Googled "woman convicted murder self defense rape" and the first page of results was 2023 cases alone. We are not permitted to use fatal violence to defend ourselves from men's sexual violence and we will still be prosecuted and convicted for murder in most cases - men suggesting we could or should do that is just totally divorced from reality. I know Julie knows this better than anyone (everyone else, remember Emma Humphreys?).
Ok now I've listened. Why can he not understand the difference between (i) an occasional threat that you can defend against and (ii) the experience of being female, which is the state we're in ALL THE TIME. We can't take our woman off when we get home, and women are at more risk at home anyway, so that means we are NEVER not at risk. A war correspondent doesn't wear a bulletproof vest in the bath, while having sex, while sleeping, while walking down Sheffield high street, but a woman is basically never not at risk of male violence - so she's supposed to be vigilant every second of every 24 hours?

Most of the shit that happens you didn't know was going to fucking happen, so what are you supposed to do? I've been flashed, so am I then supposed to chase him to pepper spray him? (Fun as that would be.) If I've been assaulted in public, say groped in a bar, do I karate chop him afterwards? While satisfying, that doesn't prevent the sexual assault, does it? If my boss puts his hand on my knee at the Christmas do, am I pepper-spraying everyone at the table? Still got assaulted and now I'm spending Christmas in lock up.

I haven't gotten a black belt in whatever because I'm doing other things with my life than spending loads of cash and years on that and be frustrated because I'm not the sports type. Maybe I would if Peter pays me for my time investment and pays for the classes, although we'd have to work around my arthritis, so I guess he'll have to take care of that too, and the self help books I'll need to help with being unhappy having to do sports, maybe some talk therapy...and still it wouldn't be guaranteed it'll help when I am in a direct danger at some point because yes it may be while I'm drunk or in bed. 🙄 But I guess he'd be willing to make that investment, given his insistence that we should make that investment. If he's having second thoughts then he got his answer.
