I have been falsely accused of inappropriate behavior twice, which is why I believe Truth and Reconciliation Councils are the best and safest ways for accusers and accused to talk thru each others' versions of a given situation. Patriarchy is at the root of it and teaching boys and men to be feminists is the solution.
This does NOT mean not believing girls and women; but it DOES mean not excluding a boy or man from stating THEIR case. It has been wrong and damaging for men to silence / suppress the views of girls and women in such cases. I'm urging that we not make the reverse error by shutting out the views of boys or men, when they believe and have evidence that contradicts what they are accused of. THAT's where actual healing can happen. If violence- originating trauma is key to the case, it's vital to assure the abused party is not re-traumatized by using safer modes of communication like writing, shielding direct contact, using a surrogate etc.
