It’s interesting to hear the moderate voice of ‘Katie’, who seems a decent person & who at least grasps the argument about women’s safety.
But what is still baffling to me is that Katie thinks he’s a woman. But he’s not. He’s a man who likes to dress in what we call a more ‘feminine’ style, & there’s nothing wrong with that. How is it that pointing out such an obvious truth is seen as a heinous slur akin to committing a crime? Lipstick, long hair & dresses are not in themselves specific signifiers of ‘woman’. They’re just modes of dressing that for better or worse have come to be associated with women. But it’s a stereotype. We don’t all dress that way - millions of us have short hair & wear jeans & jumpers anyway.
So since sex can’t be changed, I don’t see what actual transition has taken place, except in clothing & hairstyles. Oh and ‘pronouns’.
‘Trans’ is an ideology & therefore needs a separate frame of reference from LGB, which is about sexual orientation, not ideology. But they have the same rights as everyone else because they’re people. There’s no need for special laws just because some men prefer to present themselves in a gender fluid way. David Bowie was a master at it, but he didn’t need to call himself a woman to do it.
The issue is that women did not choose this fight & those vicious & abusive TRAs need to calm down their hateful rhetoric.
Great conversation. As someone in the US, I find it so informative to learn, based on empirical evidence, what hasn’t worked in the UK re: self ID and the prison system. A handful of blue states here in the US have self ID laws relating to the prisons. I know of one terrible outcome in which two female prisoners became pregnant within a year of a trans woman entering a women’s prison in the state of New Jersey. I never saw a news story about this in either of the two major newspapers I read regularly. It only appeared in smaller publications. I get the sense that major news outlets avoided reporting on it so as not to appear transphobic.
Thank you, Julie, now and for ever. Nobody focuses so unremittingly on the dangers we face as you do, with good reason. If only we could welcome among us men who think they are sweet lovely people and want to dress like us, and all would be well. But time and again, they prove that trust is not only misplaced, it's dangerous. The stats bear it out too: 'male pattern violence' and aggression persist no matter what they wear.
Just caught up on the whole 35-40 min discussion with your, Tatchell and 'Katy Jon Went' and I cannot believe that Times Radio and other major outlets are still platforming Tatchell. He's been flailing around the airwaves recently on LBC with Tom Swarbrick swearing he never said TWAW (so easily disproved), to having his clock cleaned by Helen Joyce on BBC Radio Ulster to being comprehensively trounced by your good self on Times Radio. Funny how he has not linked to any or them on his Twitter...
'Katy Jon' is a new one on me. Clearly trying to align with the "true trans/good trans" camp like Debbie Hayton. On his website he describes himself as "non-binary transgender " and hints around about possible DSD/hormone deficiency, so lots of buzz but ultimately, just a feminine man with long hair.
Keep up the good fight, Julie. I could listen to you mop the floor with these nonces all day.

Good stuff Julie

That was great, Julie! At your unequivocal best - thank you! 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Thank you Julie for your clarity, intelligent argument and persistence.
Trans identified men are male and belong in a separate area of men’s prison. It’s that simple.
What about transman in prisons. Would be interesting to see the other side
Well said. As always. 💗
