I have been following your work for some time and am inspired by your courage and plain-speaking approach to these complex issues - particularly the fact that you consider class as a context for these questions. Thank you so much for starting this substack.

Looking forward to reading this. I have never understood why misogyny is so rife.

I remember hearing about the “tragic mistake” of killing “an innocent victim” (I was living in Birmingham at the time) and a friend commenting “Now they’re thinking they’d better catch him before he kills Princess Anne”.

Good that you're here. I worked in the Look North newsroom in Leeds when Jayne Macdonald was murdered and remember the coverage very well. I too was appalled and angry for the other victims who it was implied somehow 'deserved' it. Still in Leeds and still fighting!

I think I'm glad you're here, but there is such a huge, bitter, acidic pile of rage in my stomach that we all still have to be. That's the price you pay for being a woman in the world who's intelligent enough to see all this shit -- a lifelong stomach full of bile. But you do make me feel less insane, so thank you so much for persisting.

Really looking forward to this! I remember the Yorkshire Ripper and the headlines, but I was only young and it wasn't until years later that I saw the misogyny in it all.
