Any sane human of any sexual identity should applaud JKR for this move. Let’s hope some other wealthy philanthropists get on board and make this a truly global initiative.

Wonderful news for women who have been raped and abused and doubled down on by the likes of a man who's in charge of ERCC. Just a thought for me...we need these female only spaces all over the country/planet. Happy and Sad at the same time.

This made me weep. Joy and sorrow both. How I wish we had someone so powerful and monied with her courage and intelligence in the US. So many rich people here, where are they?! But Rowling is doing her practical magic for women everywhere, and I am so grateful for her too. And for you, Julie, thank you for everything you do. May Beira's wisdom in this dark time of year inspire and strengthen women around the globe. May the pleas for help from the most vulnerable among us be heard.

An essential, bold (meaning, in the face of inevitable verbal and on-line attack) development.

Tragic that it is needed, but kudos to those who have set it up.

And the preventive mitigation of potential lines of attack (non-charity status etc) is a 4D chess move everybody should be proud of.

JKR is a hero. The more I read her writing and see her actions, the more I understand that she wrote herself into Harry Potter and Hermione Granger - she has an unwavering moral compass and won’t back down from doing the right thing no matter the consequences, and she surely was always the most clever girl in all her classes.
