Thanks for sharing; this is a superb article. Even now as the climate crisis accelerates, it astonishes me how so frequently the population issue is still swerved altogether in editorial features and public debates. Whether we like to acknowledge it or not, we are now locked onto a grim trajectory in which global resources will grow evermore scarce, millions will be forced to migrate due to environmental catastrophe, and entire economic and structural models will be rendered meaningless. Women and girls will, of course, be among the most severely affected. Patriarchal pronatalism (something that, it should be noted, is informed by blatant racism in many of the populist regimes like Orban's) runs entirely contrary to this and must be contested. As the article brilliantly notes: "A smaller human population will immensely facilitate other transformations we need: mitigating climate change, conserving and rewilding ecosystems, making agriculture sustainable, and making communities more resilient and able to integrate more climate and war refugees."
