Good luck to you, Leo GrandeLook out for my review, coming in the next week or so. Does this film romanticise and sanitise the sex trade? How common are female sex buyers? Is this a Pretty Woman with a sex switch? All this, and more.
I heard Emma Thompson discussing this on Woman's Hour today. The substantive issue discussed was women who'd never experienced orgasm. The "sex worker" was mentioned very briefly, but only as a sympathetic character, who helps the heroine discover her sexuality. It did make me think of Pretty Woman. Is it OK to romanticism prostitution if the prostituted person is a man? I don't think so. I'm really disappointed. I love Emma Thompson and the writer, Katy Brand, but it's disappointing that, from what I've heard, the issues raised by her buying sex are not tackled. I hope I'm wrong
