Emma Watson - a passionate supporter of Mermaids
I wrote this, for Unherd, about the latest Mermaids scandal: https://unherd.com/2022/10/mermaids-is-endangering-children/
I am angry beyond belief that so many celebrities, corporations, statutory agencies and individuals could give support to this child abuse project. There are some brilliant activists on Twitter unearthing each and every one of them. I think we should ask them all, “Do you still support this organisation, bearing in mind what has been revealed?” The thing is, plenty of us have been warning about this for a long, long time. I first contacted Mermaids back in 2003, yes, 19 years ago, when I wrote my first piece on the madness of the transsexuality diagnoses. I was given the cold shoulder. Since then it’s become a cause célèbre, seen as progressive, and lauded by the likes of Witchfinder General, Owen Jones. Those of us that have spoken out against Mermaids’s hideous ideology and practice have been labelled bigots, transphobes, and even Nazis. Have a think about what you were doing during the war, so you can tell your grandchildren, or look yourself in the mirror and feel some pride. If you have turned a blind eye to this, open them, if you have supported Mermaids, now that you have the evidence you need, change your mind, and do it publicly. This is about the lives, health and well-being of children, and it’s also about the way that many, many feminists, lesbians, and some men have been vilified and had their lives all but ruined for trying to blow the whistle and raise the red flag. Have a think. Sometimes it’s easier than we imagine to do the right thing.
Perfectly expressed. People who hurt others will always be amongst us, but they couldn't do nearly as much damage without the complicity of others. The real problem is the degree to which evil can be nurtured by those who have an interest in doing so. We must be a society in decline if people can look on benignly as terrible harm is done to children and women are crushed. The people who have been standing up to this horror are heroes and will be recognised as such, I am sure. We see you and we thank you. You will be able to sleep soundly at night when those who supported this ghastly pantomime wake up and realise what they have been endorsing. Thank you for everything you do.
I came rather late to this issue but recognised immediately that Mermaids was evil. It perplexes me how so many people could not recognise this.
