In 2018, journalist Hannah Barnes stumbled on a curious story involving apparent turmoil at an NHS clinic which was being overwhelmed by children described as experiencing “gender distress”.
Consultant psychiatrist David Bell was a governor at the NHS Trust which ran the clinic. He was trying to blow the whistle on serious failings in the care of these children.
In this episode, David, now retired, and Hannah who is associate editor at the New Statesman, describe what followed.
And how between them, they helped exposed one of the biggest safeguarding and medical scandals in NHS history.
